The Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) is a multi-stakeholder alliance with over 100 institutional members from public, private, research, civil society and the financial sector. The SRP initiative was originally co‐convened by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH (GIZ) and is now an independent member association.
SRP works with partners to transform the global rice sector by improving smallholder livelihoods, reducing the social, environmental and climate footprint of rice production; and by offering the global rice market an assured supply of sustainably produced rice.
Our mission is to catalyze global rice sector transformation by developing tools and mobilizing rice stakeholders to promote on-farm adoption of sustainable best practice, link farmers to markets and offer an objective normative basis for policymaking.
Our vision is to “Feed the world. Sustainably”, transforming the global rice sector through an alliance that links research, production, policy making, trade and consumption. The vision articulates a new norm in rice, where the sector delivers healthy, high-quality, nutritious rice to consumers, helps farmers achieve better lives, and protects the environment.
The General Assembly functions as the SRP’s highest decision-making body, and meets annually to perform statutory functions and provide policy guidance. See our Articles of Association and Financial Statement 2020.
Reporting to the General Assembly, the SRP Executive Board advises on the strategy and action plans to ensure that the SRP achieves its objectives. The Board is supported by two Board Committees on Governance & Risk and Resource Mobilization.
Two operational committees, the Technical Committee and Monitoring & Evaluation Committee, allow members to help shape our goals, tools and activities.
The SRP Secretariat is responsible for the overall management and coordination of SRP's programmes, partnerships, communications and resource mobilization initiatives to advance the Strategic Plan and Annual Action Plans.
